The Ministry of Defence announced on Tuesday that Catherine, Princess of Wales, will participate in her first official engagement since undergoing surgery in January. She will attend the birthday celebrations of her father-in-law, King Charles III, on June 8.
According to an announcement on the official website of the British Army, Catherine, married to Prince William, the heir to the throne, will join in the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony to review soldiers.
While the Kensington Palace office of Kate and William has not officially confirmed her attendance at the event, this marks a significant step as Catherine resumes her royal duties after her medical procedure earlier this year.
The army website states that King Charles III, currently undergoing cancer treatment, is slated to review troops at the Trooping the Colour main event on June 15. Despite his health challenges, the monarch continues to fulfill his royal duties.
On Tuesday, Charles conducted an in-person audience with finance minister Jeremy Hunt ahead of the government’s official budget announcement on Wednesday. Photos captured the British head of state, clad in a blue suit and a light tie, warmly greeting Hunt at Buckingham Palace in central London.
Meanwhile, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, made her first public appearance since undergoing abdominal surgery in mid-January. Images published by US outlet TMZ show her out and about on Monday, marking a gradual return to her public engagements.
Since her discharge from the hospital on January 29, the 42-year-old princess has primarily been recuperating at her residence in Windsor, where she resides with William and their three young children.
TMZ recently published photos of Kate, sporting sunglasses, as she was chauffeured by her mother in a car near Windsor Castle on Monday. The images have sparked speculation on social media about the reasons behind the princess’s extended absence from public view.
