On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on allies to demonstrate a level of “unity” akin to that shown towards Ukraine, drawing a comparison to Israel’s recent announcement of repelling an Iranian attack with Western backing.
In recent months, Ukraine has expressed mounting frustration over delays in Western aid, particularly in the provision of air defenses deemed crucial for countering lethal Russian assaults.
Taking to Telegram, Zelensky extended gratitude to allies who had answered Ukraine’s plea for enhanced air defenses, yet emphasized that the relentless nature of Russian offensives demands a stronger display of unity.
Zelensky pointed out, “The defense of Israel highlights the efficacy of unity within the free world, proving its viability.”
He further asserted, “Similar solidarity can safeguard Ukraine, a non-NATO member, against threats,” urging Ukraine’s allies to exhibit the necessary “political will.”
In a press conference, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba emphasized the importance of swift support, drawing parallels to Western assistance to Israel.
“We observe that unified action among allies prevents any missiles from reaching Israeli targets,” Kuleba stated, joined by his Norwegian counterpart.
He further urged partners to provide necessary aid, even if not at the same level as seen in Israel, pledging Ukraine’s commitment to complete the task.
Over the weekend, Iran retaliated against Israel with a barrage of drones and missiles, responding to a fatal strike on its consulate in Damascus on April 1.
Israel’s military, aided by the United States and allies, claimed to have intercepted 99 percent of the incoming threats, resulting in minimal damage from the overnight attack.
