Russia launched a large-scale overnight attack on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, using nearly 160 drones alongside ballistic and cruise missiles. The strikes injured more than 20 people and caused widespread damage to residential buildings, industrial sites, and energy infrastructure across several regions.
Kyiv was among the areas most heavily affected. Ukrainian officials said at least 18 people were injured in the capital, while damage was reported across four districts. Emergency crews were deployed to extinguish fires, inspect damaged buildings, and assist residents forced to leave their homes.
Additional strikes were reported in Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and other parts of the country. Six people were injured in Odesa, while three others were wounded after a missile hit industrial facilities in Zaporizhzhia. Energy infrastructure in Sumy and Odesa also sustained damage, raising concerns about disruptions to electricity and other essential services.
The attack came shortly after the US House of Representatives approved a broad package of sanctions and tariffs targeting Russia and Iran. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the legislation, describing stronger economic pressure as an important tool for pushing Moscow toward renewed negotiations.
Russia, however, warned that the proposed US sanctions would further complicate diplomatic efforts. The Kremlin described the measures as hostile and argued that they would make an agreement over Ukraine more difficult to achieve.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continued conducting attacks against strategic facilities inside Russia, with officials reporting damage to an oil refinery in Yaroslavl. The latest exchanges demonstrate that the conflict remains highly active, with both sides targeting infrastructure intended to support military operations and economic capacity.
The renewed escalation has increased concerns about civilian safety and the resilience of Ukraine’s energy network as colder months approach. Emergency teams are assessing the full extent of the damage, while Ukrainian authorities have again urged Western partners to provide additional air-defence systems and interceptor missiles.
