Britain should prepare for an AI-powered cyberattack on critical infrastructure within two years, the National Cyber Security Centre warned on Tuesday.
Its annual report assesses that a ransomware attack using AI-powered malware is highly likely by 2028.
NCSC chief executive Richard Horne urged organisations to address longstanding weaknesses in technology and supply chains. He said AI could help attackers identify and exploit existing vulnerabilities at unprecedented scale.
The warning calls for urgent investment in cybersecurity to reduce the risk of disruption to essential services and businesses.
