European stocks edged lower on Tuesday, with disappointing HSBC results weighing on banks and unrest in France adding to investor caution.
At 09:20 GMT, the STOXX 600 was down 0.1%. HSBC fell nearly 7% after revenue missed expectations, helping push the banking index down 1.1% and London’s FTSE 100 down 0.8%.
French shares were broadly flat, although consumer confidence dropped to its lowest since June 2013 amid continuing protests. Investors also awaited central bank decisions later this week.
