Germany and the UAE Prepare Billion-Dollar Push in Investment, AI and Energy

Germany and the United Arab Emirates are preparing to deepen their economic relationship through a series of agreements covering investment, artificial intelligence, energy and advanced technology during the state visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The value of the planned agreements is expected to reach several billion dollars, highlighting the growing economic importance of the relationship. Although full details have not yet been announced, the initiatives are expected to include new investment commitments and a dedicated framework for technological cooperation.
The technology framework is intended to bring together German researchers, industrial companies and technology developers with Emirati investors and innovation institutions. Artificial intelligence is likely to become a central pillar of this cooperation, particularly in sectors where Germany possesses significant industrial expertise, including manufacturing, mobility, healthcare, energy systems and automation.
Germany is currently seeking to strengthen its position in the global artificial-intelligence economy. However, German companies and research institutions often face difficulties in securing the large-scale financing and computing infrastructure required to transform scientific research into internationally competitive products. The UAE’s investment capacity and rapidly expanding technology sector could help address part of this challenge.
Energy cooperation is another major component of the developing partnership. Germany and the UAE have already worked together in renewable energy, hydrogen and energy efficiency. The new agreements are expected to build on these foundations and explore how Emirati energy capabilities can support Germany’s industrial transition.
Berlin is particularly interested in reliable and diversified energy partnerships. The disruption of established supply relationships in recent years has demonstrated the risks of depending too heavily on a limited number of energy providers. The UAE, meanwhile, is investing heavily in renewable energy and is seeking to become an important supplier of low-carbon fuels and hydrogen.
Economic relations between the two countries are already substantial. Their annual non-oil trade is valued at approximately $15.5 billion, with German companies exporting machinery, vehicles, chemicals, electrical equipment and specialised industrial products to the Emirati market.
The UAE also serves as a regional commercial centre from which German companies can reach markets across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Its ports, airports, logistics networks and free economic zones make it an important base for German businesses seeking international expansion.
For the UAE, cooperation with Germany offers access to engineering expertise, advanced manufacturing and internationally recognised research institutions. German technology could support the Emirates’ efforts to develop a more diversified, knowledge-based economy.
The proposed agreements therefore extend beyond short-term investment announcements. They reflect an attempt to create permanent networks connecting businesses, universities, research institutions and government agencies in both countries.
If implemented effectively, the partnership could combine Germany’s technological and industrial capabilities with Emirati capital, energy resources and global commercial reach, creating benefits for both economies at a time of increasing international competition.
