Spain’s women’s national football team has advanced to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final after securing a 1–0 extra-time victory against Germany in a tense semi-final match held in Basel, Switzerland.
The match remained goalless until the 113th minute, when Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmatí, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, found the back of the net with a decisive strike. Bonmatí capitalized on a loose ball in the box, sending a low shot past the German goalkeeper and into the far corner—securing Spain’s first-ever competitive win over Germany in a major women’s tournament.
Both teams demonstrated strong defensive performances, with Spanish goalkeeper Cata Coll and Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger making several crucial saves throughout regular time. However, Spain’s dominance in possession and composure under pressure ultimately allowed them to prevail.
This win represents another landmark moment in what is widely seen as a golden era for Spanish women’s football, following their FIFA Women’s World Cup triumph in 2023.
Spain will now meet reigning champions England in the final, scheduled for Sunday, 27 July, at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. England reached the final after defeating France 2–1 in the other semi-final match. The upcoming final is expected to be a showcase of elite European football, as England aims to defend their title while Spain seeks to capture their first-ever Euro championship.
