Zelenskyy Sees Trump’s Unpredictability as Key to Ending Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed optimism that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s unpredictable nature could play a decisive role in resolving the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. In a recent interview, Zelenskyy stated, “I would really like to see President Trump’s unpredictability apply to Russia. I believe he really wants to end the war.”

Zelenskyy emphasized that Trump’s assertiveness could be instrumental in countering Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression. He noted, “Trump could be decisive. For us, this is the most important thing… He is capable of stopping Putin — or more accurately, helping us stop Putin. He can do it.”

The Ukrainian leader has been actively engaging with the incoming U.S. administration, seeking to strengthen ties and secure continued support. He underscored the importance of solid security guarantees from allies, including potential NATO membership, despite Moscow’s opposition.

Zelenskyy’s remarks come amid ongoing Russian advances in eastern Ukraine, with Ukrainian forces facing significant challenges. He highlighted the urgency of stabilizing the front line and the necessity of receiving robust support from international partners to withstand Russian pressure.

As the conflict continues, Zelenskyy remains hopeful that the incoming U.S. administration’s approach will contribute to a breakthrough in peace negotiations, ultimately leading to the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
