Russia launches strikes in several Ukrainian cities

Russia conducted a series of missile strikes on Ukrainian cities, including the capital, leading authorities to declare a nationwide air alert.

The attacks followed Ukraine’s targeting of a Russian warship in the occupied Crimean port of Feodosia. Explosions were reported in Kyiv, and missiles hit several other Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odesa.

The strikes occurred in the wake of heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

In southern Odesa, a high-rise building caught fire after being hit by debris from a downed drone, according to the city’s mayor, Gennady Trukhanov.

The attacks occurred following the acknowledgment by the Kremlin on Tuesday that a Ukrainian attack had damaged a warship in the occupied Crimean port of Feodosia.

Ukraine claimed its air force destroyed the Novocherkassk landing ship, with President Volodymyr Zelensky making a humorous remark on social media about the vessel joining “the Russian underwater Black Sea fleet.”

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu provided President Vladimir Putin with a detailed report about the damage to a large Russian landing ship, according to the Russian defence ministry.

The ship was reportedly damaged by guided aerial missiles. Ukraine’s military claimed responsibility for destroying the Russian naval ship in a missile attack on the eastern Crimean port. Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed gratitude to the United States for releasing the last remaining package of weapons for Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of continued support from the US.

Zelensky warned that any change in US policy could significantly impact the course of the war.

Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden, Congress, and the American people for the $250 million military aid package announced.

He emphasized the importance of continued support to defend freedom and security not only in Ukraine and Europe but also in the United States, underscoring the need to respond to ongoing Russian aggression.
