A Large-Scale Russian Attack on Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine — Russia launched one of its largest waves of missile and drone attacks in recent months, striking multiple locations across Ukraine overnight and causing civilian casualties as the conflict continues to escalate.

According to Ukrainian officials, the attacks targeted several regions, including the capital Kyiv and the northeastern city of Kharkiv. Air raid sirens sounded across large parts of the country as Ukrainian air defenses attempted to intercept incoming missiles and drones.

Authorities reported that a number of civilians were killed and injured during the strikes, while residential buildings and civilian infrastructure sustained significant damage. Emergency services were deployed throughout the night to extinguish fires, rescue trapped residents, and assess the extent of the destruction.

One of the most significant incidents occurred in Kyiv, where a fire broke out at the Dormition Cathedral located within the historic Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex. The centuries-old religious site, one of Ukraine’s most important cultural and spiritual landmarks, is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts visitors from around the world.

Ukrainian officials condemned the attack, describing it as another example of the threat posed to both civilian lives and cultural heritage during the ongoing war. Investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the damage to the cathedral and surrounding structures.

The latest assault comes amid intensified military activity along several front lines and growing concerns over the humanitarian impact of the conflict. Ukrainian authorities have continued to call for increased international support, particularly in the areas of air defense and reconstruction assistance.

Russia has not immediately commented on the specific targets struck during the latest wave of attacks. Moscow has consistently maintained that its military operations focus on strategic and military objectives, while Ukraine and its allies accuse Russia of repeatedly targeting civilian areas.

As the war enters another critical phase, the renewed attacks underscore the continuing volatility of the conflict and the challenges facing efforts to achieve a lasting resolution.
